Tokyo Cafe Report: The Pie Hole-2

This is the latter half of our Tokyo Cafe Report on The Pie Hole in Tokyo! Don't forget to read the first half!

What's going on behind?

As I explained in the previous post, The Pie Hole, LA-based Pie & Coffee specialist, has opened its first ever overseas location here in Tokyo last year.

Don't know about them? Check this video, which will even make you want to work for this LA's No.1 Pie maker!

Authentic apple pie!

What we tested first on the day was Mom's Apple Crumble (¥450), probably their signature-like pie.

First of all, look at this mouthwatering & generous layers of sliced apple!

In Japan, where pie has never been a shining star of baked goods or sweets (because of its too many sweets options), we rarely see this kind of authentic layered pie. Needless to say, every bite provides you wonderful freshness & fruitiness!

And this crumble on top enhances nice crunchy texture along with its pie crust at the bottom.

"More tea" than you think!

The second piece of pie we tried was Earl Grey Tea (¥400), which seemed popular among young girls I saw there.

The biggest surprise with this pie was its humble sweetness. Contrary to my expectation & my image to typical American pie, this piece isn't too sweet!

Though this generous amount of cream on top instinctively makes you think about how sweet this is, but you'll probably feel rich flavor of earl grey tea rather than sweetness, which is of course a good surprise!

Oh, and keep in mind this Organic Sicilian Lemon Sparkling Juice is way lemonier than you think. It's sooo refreshing!

Anyway, The proof of the "pie" is in the eating. Go and get some! I also have to revisit there to test savory pie!

Thanks for reading.
