Kayabacho: Devo Pre

Kayabacho, the neighboring area of Tokyo's business hub Nihonbashi, has been recognized as the typical office district where no fun can be found except drinking at Izakaya.

However, it's also no longer an exception to the new trend taking place across Tokyo. The wave of redevelopment is pouring new faces into this old hood.

Devo Pre

Today's pick up, Devo Pre, is definitely a great example for it. Though I put some pics of coffee & sweet, its primary function is a DIY goods shop, owned by a Japanese paint maker.

It might look like a hidden backstreet bar, but don't worry, it's more casual. I thought this stylish facade design totally lives up to people's expectation.

DIY Stuff

Stepping inside, you'll see its half space is used as a cozy cafe & the rest holds a collection of items for paintings & home decoration.Look at this hobby-oriented vibe!

A super nice store staff, Mr. Onuki told me that putting a cafe & paint store under the same roof is a mission impossible type of project.

I also didn't notice until he pointed out, but the very characteristic smell of paints has never allowed it to be realized.  What has made it possible is the collection of non-harmful paints they deal in, like American brand, Old Village

And his recommendation was these colorful wall decoration tapes. In Japan, renters are rarely allowed to paint their rooms, so this kind of removable patterns are really useful!

Must Order

I ordered Caffe Latte (¥300) for my drink. You might have an expectation that the coffee at the place like this shouldn't be good, but this one tastes quite good. It ain't that cheap colored water.

And what I have to emphasize is this unfamiliar sweet named Devo Pre Original (¥345). From this low price, I was expecting something smaller & straight-out-of microwave thing.

But it wasn't. Texture was very flaky & crisp, the homey apple filling works perfectly with cinnamon flavor! It can be described as an unusually formed & finished Apple pie.

This setting, quality, price and staff. Don't be late, guys. There are only 7 or 8 seats available!

Thanks for reading.
