Asakusabashi-2

Needless to say, blogging about Tokyo has brought me to so many places since I started this.

For a man who moved into Tokyo after having spent most of his life in Kansai region around Osaka, seeing Tokyo's old bridges surviving on or near iconic Sumida River has turned into a weird hobby.

And today's area, Asakusabashi also has a manly, beautiful one to be photographed.

Vintage Bridge

Yanagibashi is a very short bridge across the Kanda River, a tributary to Tokyo's most beloved river, Sumida River.

Though the bridge itself is attractive enough (at least for me), the view from there is also unmissable.

To the east, a variety of working boats & cruise boats busily come & go.

Turning your eyes to the west, you'll find the very unique scene where dozens of traditional houseboats are tagged on the narrow Kanda River, sandwiched by the lines of countless office buildings.

Great Contrast

What makes me excited about this spot is this super old school approach using bunch of wooden materials.

On the edge of both sides, some small houses related to these boat businesses can be found and all of them look wooden.

I just wonder how they have been well maintained & survive the severe seasons we go through here in Tokyo.

While taking pics along the river, I saw some crews bringing some food and drinks into the boat from the hatch on its top skillfully walking on the roof.

Then a small boat came in.

In the year of 2017, where more edgy & sleek buildings are being built all across Tokyo, these guys are showing rapidly changing Tokyo to the tourists keeping tradition on the water.

Just visit Asakusabashi area & photograph the local people's long time friendship with ships and rivers.

Thanks for reading.
