Ramen Ichiryu

In the recent years, we've seen "ramen diversity" growing rapidly here in Tokyo.

One characteristic trend becoming clearer is an emphasis on locality, proudly holding a name of specific area or city on its facade.

-Hakata Ramen Yuimaru-

Especially, the name of Hakata, widely known as a ramen mecca in Kyushu region, is becoming a revival hit on the streets of Tokyo.

Hakata Style Chain

Ichiryu, established in 1955, started as a small stand in Nakasu, Fukuoka. And after 60 plus years, now it has grown to networked chain brand with a modern twist.

Stress-free Ordering

What should be mentioned first is this modern ordering system through multi-lingual tablet allocated to every seat / table.

While it's just troublesome for us Japanese, (because we just wanna say the name of dish or purchase a ticket!) the system would easily remove the worry & stress from non-Japanese guests.

Yes, this brand is obviously seeing "that demographic" not only just Japanese.

Experience Authenticity

Though some non-Hakata twists are given to some of their items, its basic style still sticks to the local tradition, generally consists of pure Tonkotsu soup & super thin straight noodles with Kikurage mushrooms.

This is the overview of the actual dish, Ajitama Ramen

Traditional thin noodles are cooked perfectly to my request I made on the tablet & have an easy to slurp touch & texture.

Soup & Toppings

This milky soup might look a bit oily, but not that much. It feels mild & creamy.

Personally, I want a bit more to leave an impression in my memory. If you get the same feeling, that's the stage where spicy Takana pickles table condiment comes in.

It's gonna add a nice kick, but be careful not to put in too much.

What I liked most about this bowl was the chunkiness of these chasiu pork slices. Nice meatiness!

In summary, it's not the one to be called "The best ramen place", but definitely good place to experience authentic Hakata Tonkotsu style, with the little help of convenient multi-lingual tablet.

Thanks for reading.
