Shibuya: d47 MUSEUM

Shibuya Hikarie, directly connected to the Shibuya Terminal, is generally recognized as a typical high-end fashion building in Tokyo.

But you still have a room to enjoy without using any single coin because the 8th floor of this building is entirely involved with art and creative works. 

d design travel

One particular section of the floor has been occupied by d design travel, which publishes travel guide books featuring real local culture of Japan. 

They publish every 4 months & each of them is dedicated to one particular prefecture out of the 47 across Japan. And this space hosts an exhibition in line with its new issue or specific theme they set out.

They have a set of thoughtful criteria & motto in their activity, such as...

-We never feature what doesn't move us & do write in our own words.

-We don't use special lens, effects or filters on our pics.

-We feature reasonable stuff that local people really do.

Welcome To Gunma!

This month their eye-balls are on Gunma Pref, often described as an unpopular & unhip area of kanto region. (& in fact, local people are often taking advantage of that reputation somehow)

However, the pref. really has a variety of tourists resources & what to be experienced.

This strange-shaped red guy is called "Daruma", well known local handcraft in Takasaki, Gunma. Interestingly, eye balls are finally added to after your wish comes true, so you have to keep them empty until the time comes.

As Gunma Pref is not adjacent to ocean surrounded by mountains, these handcrafts or silk industry have been a huge key to the local economy. 

In 2014, Tomioka Silk Mill in Gunma was officially selected as a World Heritage Site of UNESCO.

Where Sake Is Produced

Onsen hot springs like Kusatsu is also their tourists attraction for years. Staying at a traditional Japanese Inn will be a highlight of your trip.

In addition, there still is a big mother nature over there & probably from now on. 

It has been said that quality sake should be produced in where the beautiful water exists and Gunma is proudly one of them. 

Book, design & local culture. It might sound too common or worn-out theme, but their viewpoints have been really thoughtful & spot on at least for me.

If you've got a rainy day during your stay in Tokyo or mood that you don't want to explore this concrete-jungle anymore, just try this space.
