Tokyo Cafe Report: Cafe Pause

If I have to point out one thing I don't like about Tokyo is congestion everywhere. It's not only about traffic on the road, but also about any type of the places or facilities on the streets, even more so if you're around major stations.

Compared with other areas on the Yamanote (loop) Line, the situation in Ikebukuro area could be so much better, in terms of availability of seats and tables at a cafe. And more importantly, cafes in this area tend to be more spacious & relaxing than ones in Shibuya or Shinjuku.

Cafe Pause is also one of the great examples of my view. Despite its closeness to Ikebukuro station, this block is very quiet & peaceful. What I liked about this place was its understated presence. The biggest sign with the cafe just says "CAFE".

At the entrance, there were easels explaining today's lunch. Though I didn't order it on that particular day, salad, soup & coffee comes along with @¥1,050.

Stepping inside, you'll feel very good & comfortable old vibe there, particularly thanks to the wooden tables, vintage walls & window frames. You can easily forget your daily tasks & pressure that driving you crazy.

What I ordered this time were Iced Coffee & Raspberry Baked Cheesecake

This cheesecake was interesting. Contrary to my expectation, its top layer was quite solid. For cheesecake enthusiasts, this might be a bit overcooked. And as you can see, raspberry layer is just beyond the bottom crust. It was full of fruitfulness & nice combination with dense but smooth cheese part.

In terms of cake, they seem to have another 3 or 4 different kinds depending on the day, so let me report more when I actually eat them.

In total, I just enjoyed being absent-minded watching people walking outside at the place which makes you feel like time is passing slowly... maybe rather than coffee & cake.

Thanks for reading.
